Biomechanical Cycling Fit
A bicycle can only go as fast as the person pedaling it can make
it go.  This holds true even with 2000 dollar wheels and carbon
fiber pedals.  Without proper biomechanics, even the most
well-trained cyclist will be limited when it comes to producing
power efficiently.  With all the light-weight components and
expensive equipment we buy, it sure seems like a waste to be
limiting ourselves by not setting-up the bike right to begin with.
At Cove Family and Sports Medicine, we realize the importance
of proper biomechanics, not only to go faster, but also to
prevent injury and burn-out.

Our Cycling Fit is unique for a number of reasons.  For starters,
every aspect of your fitting is based upon sound biomechanical
and neuromuscular principles.  We will customize your fit to take
into account body size and habitus, flexibility, and goals.  While
we absolutely do not use any computerized formulas to choose
the right set-up for you, our method is standardized and will
allow easy transition to any newly acquired bikes or other bikes
you already own (it is important that certain aspects of bike
set-up are consistent between all bikes that you ride).

Because we are approaching bike-fitting from a medical
perspective, if you have unique needs such as a leg-legnth
discrepancy, chronic back or neck pain, knee or shoulder
problems, etc., we can adjust your fitting to take these issues
into account.  Too often, cyclists will get a cookie-cutter fit to
optimize one aspect of cycling or another (often aerodynamics),
and will quickly find that after 20 minutes of riding, they would
rather swerve into oncoming traffic than continue.  While we
certainly understand the value of aerodynamics in time-trialing
and triathlon, we also realize the effect certain positions can
take on power-production and comfort, and we will work with you
to find the best position given your body and your goals.

Your bike fit will take between 1 and 2 hours, depending on any
special needs you might have.  Dr. Jon Krichev will work in
conjunction with Caroline Adsit, our exercise physiologist, to
evaluate your needs and any biomechanical challenges you
face, measure  your current set-up, and then find your optimal
bike fit.  Feel free to
email us with questions.
